Yeah, impeach the president.
That’s not some pun or a reference to some obscure corner of modern culture. I’m not writing a post about impeachments or presidents in general. I am asking you to sign petitions demanding the impeachment of Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States.

Technically, he’s 46th, because a couple presidents didn’t want to be sworn-in on a Sunday, the secretary of state was made “president-for-a day.”
No, I am not a conservative. I’m not some tea-party “patriot” who thinks the president is the reincarnation of Hitler. I don’t think the president wants to institute Marxism (unlike yours truly). This is not going to be some rant using out-of-context phrases to forewarn you about some unholy alliance of immigrants, Muslims, and gays. This is my appeal to- to all of you- to demand more from your leaders.
Now chances are, you’ve already heard about the policy the NSA has been enacting for the past six years. If you haven’t, here are the most basic points:
Since 2007, the National Security Administration has been coordinating with Verizon (and allegedly, a number of other companies, such as Facebook and Google) to collect data on millions of calls by US citizens- all without those pesky little things called “warrants,” “due cause,” and “The 4th Amendment.” Currently, the President and his administration have stated that this is just “metadata” (your number, the number you called, the date, the time, etc.), and that the content of your calls isn’t monitored (not that that’s legal either).
Of course, this is coming from the same guy who promised to close Guantanamo and end the wars, so whoever actually believes the promises made by the President probably shouldn’t be allowed near phones to begin with.

Or anything, for that matter…
Now if this was just a regular Shame Day post, I’d already be summarizing my complaints and offering a gif clearly and concisely communicating my feelings towards the person or persons I’m talking about.
…But I don’t think that’s gonna cut it this time.
While there’s precious little distinction between children and politicians (they’re dirty, greedy, too comfortable about showing people their privates), one key difference is that when a politician is acting out, ignoring them won’t make them go away. This requires a response, otherwise, they’re just going to keep on gnawing away out our rights (the few we have left, anyways).
Before anyone starts trying to shift responsibility away from themselves by snidely demanding to know why people didn’t oppose the Patriot Act when it was enacted, I have this to say:
I was 11.
And I still opposed it.
During the last years of his reign, I did call for the impeachment of Bush. That pile of Orwellian tripe stank then and it stinks now. And it’s not as if this is somehow a first offense. It seems that most of Obama’s moves as president have varied on a scale of “cowardly” (see his concessions to Wall Street) to incompetent (see “Operation Fast and Furious”) on the y-axis and hypocritical (see his refusal to save Troy Davis) to downright evil (see his “kill list”). The president’s most recent attack on basic civil liberties is simply the cherry on top of a **** sunday with NDAA cream.
While there are petitions already out there to impeach the president, the problem with them is, they’re largely headed by conservatives- meaning that along with truly legitimate complaints (such as the trigger happy drone use on US citizens and those subversive Afghani wedding parties) you have to deal with whinging about Benghazi- am I the only one who thinks the people who should be getting the flak for that are the people who actually killed the ambassador?
And you know what?
I’ll tolerate it.
I think half the complaints cited are stupid or even downright illegitimate grounds for impeachment, but at this rate, I’ll take what I can get. You see a leftist campaign to get this twisted war-hawk out of office, let me know, but barring that, let’s try to focus on the end goal here.
We cannot tolerate this.
This is immoral. This is reprehensible. Heck, this is embarrassing. What kind of legacy do we want for this period?
It sure aint this.
People, go out. Can that defeatist “If not Obama, someone worse” crap. Find a petition. Demand impeachment.
I was really looking for a link to a petition in this. But demanding effort is a better tack I guess.
