CWR Monday News

No, this doesn’t have anything to do with actual news, but it does relate to what is happening on this blog this Monday. Oh, happy Canadian Thanksgiving, people who celebrate it!

I apologize on Gordon’s behalf for the late post today. There was one up this morning, but we’ve since taken that down, and all in all he’s admitted that this is entirely his fault. It’s a surprise to me, too.

Later today Gordon will be concluding what he is calling a series on Western Christianity [which really started, I suppose, in mid-September] with a post on biblical inerrancy. There will also be a following wrap-up post which gathers the many thoughts he’s presented about the way we view religion in North America. Some of them have been pretty controversial, to say the least, so I’m looking forward to how he chooses to conclude the topic [for now].

On the right is a gif of the devilishly handsome James Franco, playing Harry Osborne in the very poorly received Spider-Man 3. That movie aside, it’s going to be hard to see how Dane Dehaan’s performance is going to compare in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2. He is the apex predator, though. He’s definitely got that going for him.

[Probably] No E&GT Tomorrow

First of all, if you’re reading this on the front page, I hope you notice that all of the posts below this one have been shortened and now end with a “Continue Reading” link. It’s our my hope that this will make the homepage a little easier to navigate, as well as searching through our backlogs.

I’m currently writing this from the library, as the renovations in the basement caused a wire to be cut and then spliced back together. What I mean to say is that when I left the house there was no internet, and there may not be when I return.

That being said, this post is to announce the new layout [so far 1/4 of all the posts are formatted this way] and to state that if I don’t get my internet problems fixed by tonight there will be no E&GT.

My post on Friday will go up even if it means returning to the library  to write and post it.

Thanks as always for tuning in. Here’s a gif of a prank from what I assume is some goofy Japanese TV show:

School Starting Means Less of Kat

So in case you hadn’t noticed I just finished taking a few weeks off to enjoy marital bliss. On August 31st John and I had a fantastic wedding which we owe pretty well entirely to our beloved friends and family who donated food, talents and time to make it all happen.

We then moved to Victoria, got set up in our little basement suite, and started school. It’s been a lot. A whole lot of wonderful, but a lot nonetheless. And looking at the amount of writing I already have for school has made me realize things might not be slowing down any time soon. So I’ve talked to the boys about cutting back with the blog this fall (hopefully to pick it up more regularly again over breaks and the summer). Starting next week I will only be posting once a week. That means I will be taking a hiatus from my Wednesday posts and only be posting a Fame or Shame Day article, depending on my rotation with the boys. I will also join them for Evan and Gordon talks on the week I have off from alternatively Faming and Shaming.

Don’t miss me too much. I promise I will be back posting on Wednesdays once I get out from under the weight of all this homework.

The Boys Are Taking Time Off

So Gordon had put up a Shame Day post today involving the following image:

You can read more about what is going on in this image at Native Appropriations.

And while I absolutely cannot disagree whatsoever with the point of his post, which was focused on the inherent flaws in taking on naming one’s team [and as a result, one’s mascot] after a Native American stereotype or straight-up racial epithet, I did cover that in April in my post on the Cleveland Indians.

Really, though, if that image above isn’t reason enough as to why we shouldn’t have sports teams named after entire races of people then I don’t know what else to tell you. A picture is worth a thousand words, people.

In addition, here’s a really cool article [on the ESPN website] asking what would happen if ESPN decided to stop referring to the Washington Redskins by their team name.

That being said, I decided to give both him and myself a break this week. Kat took two off due to her wedding and accompanying marital bliss, and out of respect for her and her husband’s union we’ve decided to join her on her break [in spirit, of course]. The entire CWR crew will be back in action next week.

As has been my wont when doing these posts, on the right is a gif. It is of Nick Offerman, a.k.a. Ron ****ing Swanson, popping and locking.

So, I’ve got this Wedding…

As you are all probably sick of hearing by now, I’m getting married. Except now it’s for real, this Saturday in fact. Things are really crazy this week because my parent’s house is full of family and there’s lots still left to do.

Like find an axe to cut the cake.

So the boys have graciously allowed me to skip out on my post this week. Don’t have too much fun without me, and I’ll see you next week.

EVAN: Kat’s actually free to skip next week as well; whether or not she takes me up on that offer is another thing entirely. After that point I can only assume that her and John’s marital bliss will have surely faded, and we can continue on with our regularly scheduled programming.

Shame Day: Monsanto

Ahhh Monsanto. The distributors of Agent Orange. Surely they aren’t still around wreaking havoc… right?

Alas, they are still very much around, and have been busy building themselves into food industry giants.
