Hiatus Extended

So, as you can tell by the title of this post, we are extending our hiatus.

That’s not to say that there will be no posts today- expect one from Gordon and one from myself sometime during this week.

We will be back in full-force on Monday, June 10th, exactly two years after I first purchased [rented?] this domain name. Seems fitting.

I end with a gif of a people-powered Ferris wheel:

The “One Size Fits All” Approach To Casting

Meet Mark Dacascos. As of this writing he is 49 years old, and a reasonably successful actor/martial artist. He has also portrayed more ethnicities than you can find in the average neighbourhood in small-town Western New York.

Late Post Today, The Best Way To Lead In To A Hiatus

I write this over an hour before I have to leave for work, realizing that I don’t have nearly enough time for the quality of the post I want to put together. That being said, I will have my Friday post up sometime this evening.

As you might have noticed, things have been a little shaky here at Culture War Reporters lately. Heck, most mornings I’ve felt a lot like this lady over on the right. That’s why I’ve decided to do something drastic.

Well, “drastic” may be too strong a word. After my post this evening we will be taking an entire week off, with possible updates if something particularly newsworthy happens. We will be back in June after I’ve spent some time updating Shame and Fame Day posts with their respective graphics, getting caught up on proofreading, etc.

TL;DR – After a post tonight we will next be updating in June. See you then and, as always, thanks for reading.

Fame Day: GentleBot Hell

Today is a little different because I’m not pointing to a specific show or YouTube series, but a single video featuring a ridiculous amount of talent. Below is a diagram I created that demonstrates the audience who would most appreciate it:

Now allow me to do what I do and provide a little context. Continue reading

Evan and Gordon Talk: Can Artists Retract Their Work?

EVAN: So today, due to lack of reader feedback, G-Town and I will be discussing a topic of his own choosing. That is, in his own words, “whether or not an artist can retract his [or her] own work.”

GORDON: It doesn’t happen often, though it’s not altogether uncommon, that we see some artist disparage his or her earlier work.

Bad Cop Bad Cop

More often than not, it’s because that earlier work was pretty rough or sloppy- heck, maybe even commercialistic. But we’re not talking about that. We’re talking about what we see once in a blue moon- when an artist actually attacks or her own work as being wrong.

Intelligence and Intellectual Property

As luck would have it, just as I was perusing the AV Club’s various articles on the US networks’ fall programming, regular CWR reader/my friend Marilyn brought a certain issue to my attention.

This fall CBS will be bringing the series Intelligence to the small screen [not to be confused with the CBC series of the same name that aired in 2005]. The following is the trailer, which I only saw half a minute of earlier because it failed to grab my attention:
